I am sure their is a reason, but how come the superduty does not do a fully boxed frame? Doesn't the f150 have it now?

i think the focus has been on the new body, and emission compliance, im sure you will see them come out with it soon for the sd's.

couple things from an engineering point of view
you can use a thinner gauge steel in a box shape and it will be stronger and possible lighter. than a C channel needed to carry the same strenght rating.
however... fully boxing also limits the access point for running wires , hoses etc. so i imagine its going to come down to a trade off
and you have to use standoffs through the box if you run a bolt all the way through the box section.
which is STRONG
but again to stiff will lift wheels off the ground, or maybe crack
under twisting of off road or odd driveways
we need one stiff but not to stiff.
bth types have their advantages and disadvantages over each other.
i would also speculate that weight is the driving force, then rigidity

Powerboater is correct. There is basically a trade off between the two. Fully boxed can be thinner, but limits the use of cross members. All trucks have a C-Channel frame, because it can easily be up-fitted. With a boxed frame, if you were to bolt something to the side you would need a spacer inside the frame so it won't crush in with tension. Channel frames you can tighten a bolt as hard as you want and don't have to worry about the frame.

With boxed frames, fifth wheel hitches are a lot more expensive too.
The bracket kit to mount the bed rails to the frame for a typical "C" channel frame will cost about $75 to $125 depending on the make & model.

I bet there is alot more to the box frame mounting kit. IMO the box frames are probably good for the 150, but would be terrible on any F-series truck.
