A friend, tiopablo who has signed up here, has a 2000 F-350 7.3, 4X4 duelly and he has had a problem that we thought was a bad CPS. Changed that out and the truck would run fine fore a while and then stall. Checked the fuel filters, changed the oil, blew out the fuel lines, checked the pump, all to no avail. He got mad last Saturday and dropped the fuel tank and found sheets of plastic fuel tank liner floating in the tank. He took it to a Radiator shop and had them boil out the tank and reinsatlled it. Now, my question; Has anyone heard of the fuel tank plastic liner coming loose from the fuel tank? Ford claims it is not a problem. He never used anything other than a recommended fuel additive for diesels, Stanadyne.

Boy that's a new one on me.:dunno :dunno

Are you sure it's something that came loose from the tank's interior and not something some a-hole stuffed into the tank at some point???:dunno

wow. News to me. I didnt even know they HAD a liner. I thought it was just the raw plastic on the inside.

I've had mine out, and never saw anything that could be considered a "tear" point that would get sucked up by the fuel pickup.

Weird. This is the first I have heard of that problem. Usually I hear about ppl sucking up garbage/algae on the fuel pickup screen.

Hummm...........I wonder if what he actually saw was a floating layer of bacteria.

It may have been growing on the wall of the tank, came loose and was floating up against the pickup tube. :dunno

He dug out some of the white to translucient plastic from the tank. It is definately plastic. His comment to me was the "stuff" was floating in the tank. Weird.

I wonder if it was a factory goof? Maybe the shipping plastic didn't get taken out? I don't know what this could be. Diesel can polymerize, but I don't think the conditions exist within the tank for this to happen. What's more, diesel polymer is not white.

I am at a loss... :confused

We`were thinking that it was the tank liner that had come off. Sort of like the sealer stuff that we used to put in to motorcycle tanks.
