Does anyone know what the approx. fuel filter sock in the tank is rated at? I am contemplating removing it and mounting a fuel filter on the frame before the pump.

There really isn't any "sock" in the tank.

As you can see in this picture of the fuel pickup, there is not a sock on the pickup. There is a large rubber intake or snout that has a screen to keep from picking up particles or chunks of crud. Anything that is small enough to pass through the screen, will get into the fuel pump. And those particles don't have to be all that small to do so.

To provide protection for the fuel pump, I added a fuel filter/water separator ahead of the fuel pump. It is a Wix 33418 which has a spec of a 12 micron filtering ability. This is the same type filter used on larger trucks. If it works for them, it'll work for me.:thumbs
