Ok so i've read the how to article on shimming the fuel pressure spring to 70psi,. But my question is doesn't a programer boost fuel as well? Maybe i'm not getting it, but im sure SDD will set me straight.
i believe it increases the amount not the pressure that it flows at. with the mod the same amount of fuel is being used its just going in at a higher pressure, vs with a chip your spraying more fuel with a lower pressure....
and if im not mistaken higher the pressure the better the air and fuel mix, which means a better burn.
Increasing spring pressure by shimming bumps the pressure in the rails up by keeping the "poppet" closed a little more. The fuel pump pumps at the same rate, fills the filter housing and then out the fuel feed lines to the rails in the heads. The excess is then returned to the tank and that is what's regulated by the FPR. There is less excess when at WOT.
The fuel pressure on the HEUI systems like ours is just the pressure that fills the injector, chip has no effect on it. Programming affects injection control pressure which is the oil supplied by the high pressure oil pump, that's what actually pushes the fuel out of the injector.
