Hey guys ive noticed on my truck ('02) there is some sort of filter or water separator that is bolted to the frame. what is it, and does it ever need to be replaced?

If you're referring to the cylindrical unit under the driver mounted to the frame thats the fuel pump otherwise there's no water drain valve separate from the fuel filter unit on top of the engine.

Only time the pump needs replacing is when it doesn't push enough fuel pressure (worn out)or just goes belly up.

On the 1999-2003 7.3L engine powered SuperDuty/Excursions the pump is frame mounted under the drivers side.

There's a mixer/pre filter in the tank,thats it.
