Fuel filter housing leak?!

I replaced my fuel filter on the top of the engine (7.3L) about 6 months ago. I just noticed a few days ago that the gasket is leaking. The new filter came with a new cap and gasket. The gasket/seal is a circle (obviously) but is a triangle shape (like if you cut the gasket and looked at the end of it). I know this can't allow it to seal very well. I did pull the cap off yesterday, checked the gasket/seal. It looked good. I put some vaseline on it and reinstalled it and the cap. I checked it today after work and it's still leaking. Does anyone know the standard shape of the these gasket/seals/orings? Thank you.

should be square-cut O-ring.
I use one of my 4WD sockets to tighten mine....

you are right about the o ring one side is beveled that should point out flat side against threads, one thing you might check is the center oring on the bottom of the filter. I had one come off a filter a while back and stick in the bottom of the fuel bowl. then when you put the new filter in it doesnt go all the way down and the cap wont seal.

Does anyone know where to get just the gasket for the cap on the fuel filter housing? I called all the local parts stores. The only way they sell the gasket is with the fuel filter and cap also ($18). I can't see spending $18 when I just need the gasket. I just changed the filter about 10-15,000 miles ago. I even called Ford, and they wanted to sell the cap and gasket together ($55!!!!).

Airdrew99- what type of filter are you using? Two piece I'm assuming. I have one here that I bought that I couldn't use because I forgot what was already on there. Lemme know....

I believe mine is the 2-piece style. I did find a tractor supply store that might have something that will work. I will let you know if that doesn't work out.
