based on your description someone used the 99+ one on your truck just like you guessed. The only difference is that the 94-97 cover has a nifty door to hide the fuel bowl

They are only there for decoration and serve no technical function.

actually not all the 97s (and maybe others too) had the larger cover with the door. Mine had the small cover and no door - just like you are describing. I bought 2 97s new and both had the same cover from the dealer. If you break the plastic mount for it it will never go back on. Ford screwed up the part number and apparently discontinued the plastic bracket we have. My replacement did not fit so I ditched mine.

What BJS sez. I leaned on mine.. broke it. Replaced it (35 bucks). Leaned on it again !! Broke it.. Shik Canned it.

Without it, I think the HPOP runz cooler, MPGs went up (less weight), EGTs went down (more air able to flow back toward the Turbo). And, I can change my Fuel Filter a NASCAR Pit Crew speed.

;) :D

I believe the reason they went to the smaller cover on the 99+ was to accomodate the intercooler tubes. Sounds like someone stuck a later model cover on your engine.

I want to put a small cover on mine...I just installed an IC this past weekend so the big ol one doesnt fit anymore...I am a little anal and like the "neater" look of the cover...Is it possible to buy the smaller one and fit the "smaller cover bracket" to the HPOP to mount it???

Thanks,
Casey

pay the postage and you can have my small cover. Only problem you will have is the bracket. Ford doesnt offer the correct one anymore. You will have to make it or find one in a junk yard.

I'v seen some Home Made ones... made from Aluminum or Stainless :dunno

Also, I think there are some aftermarket covers made of metal. Maybe someone will Chime In... with some info ??
