Fuel Filter Cap

Hey everyone. I have been using a Purolator fuel filter for the past few changes since I did not have the factory lid. I would like to buy the Racor filters, less cost and waste. Can I just take the lid off of the old filter and use it with the Racor's or do I need to buy the "real" lid.
