My current turbo is sounding like the bearing is going south. You can hear the bearing whine when the truck is running and hear it spool down when I turn the truck off. I think my Wildman tunes, Stage 1 injectors and 28 - 30 psi of boost killed it.

Three weeks ago, I ordered a Dominator 66 turbo from Bean's. Every week since, I've called to check and find out if it's coming yet. The answer I get, is the supplier who makes the compressor housing is dragging their feet on getting them to Bean's. And they should have them in a couple of days. That was the same story I got last Monday just before July 4th.

So Thursday after the July 4th holiday, WHEN I HAD TO GO BACK TO WORK, I called Bean's for an update. Nobody answered the phone.

So Friday after the July 4th holiday, again while I was working, I called Bean's for an update. Nobody answered the phone.

Saturday after the July 4th holiday, I called again from work. Again nobody answered the phone.

I'm getting desparate. I'm supposed to go camping next Friday (7/13), my turbo sounds like it's dying, I've got $1500+ available on my credit card, and I can't get ahold of anyone. -mad -mad

Today I finally get ahold of Bean's. Still no sign of compressor housings for a Dominator 66. Ok, so lets come up with a plan B.

"Can you get a bearing kit off to me today so I can rebuild my bearing section?"
"Sure, no problem!!"
"I HAVE TO HAVE IT NO LATER THAN WED AFTERNOON!!! I'm leaving to go camping Friday afternoon. I'm gonna need both Wed & Thurs evening after work to do the work on my turbo. So it needs to be on the little brown truck TODAY for 2 night shipping."

Bottom line, I have gotten no indication that anything has been shipped as of Monday evening. I feel that after waiting for over 3 weeks, I shouldn't be footing the bill for overnight air, for anything just so I can get it in time.

There, now that I've ranted and vented, I feel a little bit better. Emphasis on a LITTLE BIT better. But my truck still isn't fixed and I'm doubting it will be in time to go camping.

Hey Kent;

Sorry to hear that you are getting the run around. I would go to plan C for the camping trip.
I know you might not like what I say, but here goes....

Sometimes God puts road blocks in our path to save us from trouble. Maybe if your truck was fixed, you might have an accident while going on your trip.
At least that is how I look at delays like this, and it makes me cope with them a little easier.
Maybe later when your turbo comes in, you will go on your trip, be safe and have a great time.

I think if I were to meet an untimely end, it would have happened by now. Between 3600+ flight hours & 13 1/2 years of near misses in B-52's, and the near disasterous wreck I had about 2 1/2 years ago on I-94 just east of Dickinson, ND, I'm convinced I am here for a reason and will be around for a while. Considering all the mishaps over the years, I know my entire family & I have a guardian angel that looks over us . It's too long a story to get into by me having to type it out.

This trip is somewhat special. We're meeting my older daughter & her boyfriend (possible future son-in-law and his daughters). The girls I haven't yet met and I may end up being their future step grandfather. So short of the truck totally dieing, I'm going. I just wish I had a turbo in good health so I could use more than 1/3 of the throttle.

Uh, I think I gotta pass. But thanks anyhow???

That's beauty of the D-66 turbo. It's the only drop-in aftermarket turbo available for an early 99. No "cobbling" required.

Kent,

When my brgs failed in my turbo I found replacement parts locally. Called the shop, said they could have the kit the next day so I commenced tearing turbo off truck, went and picked the brg/seal kit the next morning and reveresed procedure. I wasnt down 24 hours with mine.

Do you have anyplace local that deals in Garretts?

There is a IH parts place nearby, no turbo shops that I'm aware of. But since I have to work everyday, I don't really have the time during business hours to look around. I was hoping to get a rebuild kit UPS'd to my work and tear into it when I got home.

Kent, there's a turbo shop down here, I can't really recommend them but in a pinch they might be able to help click
I don't buy much of anything from them anymore, they kinda got a big shot attitude...

Things are looking up.

Yesterday Bean sent out a bearing rebuild kit & compressor wheel which arrived today. So last evening, in little more than an hour, I pulled out the turbo. A short time later, I had it torn down in preparation for the new parts.

Upon removing the exhaust side and examining the turbine wheel, I found it to be in very rough shape. The tips of the blades were rough and jagged, with one blade actually missing a small piece. I don't know what could have caused it, but it kinda looks like something passed through the turbine side. So I need a new turbine and shaft. :nutkick:

The bad news was that turbine wheels and shafts are virtually not available, and have been on backorder everywhere for something like 3 months.

The good news is that Bean took pity of my plight and was able to come up with a lightly used turbine wheel & shaft which he is sending to me via overnight air. :hail :hail :notworthy

So tomorrow after work, I should be able to assemble and re-install the turbo just in the nick of time. Then I can hook up the camper so I can take it to work Friday.

I plan on leaving for the campground directly from work on Friday. :burnit :burnit

So after pulling my hair out over all this, things may be coming together. :thumbs :sweet
