i went to the track today to do a little racing. on my last run i did a very hard boosted launch breaking all four corners loose:thumbs and hopping alot harder than i like:eek: . anyway when i parked at the end of the run i was pouring tranny fluid, i had it towed home and i dropped the tranny. the front seal was blown out of the pump housing. is there a way to keep this thing in or did i just push it to hard. i need help quick, this truck is my daily driver

it's just a friction fit and you may have killed it or possibly not. a new seal is relatively cheap and OE seals are notorious to fail.

Pickup an aftermaket seal, or (i believe) there are updated factory seals. and put it in and see where you are at. More than likely it is not a big deal if you didn't blow too much out.

Too much fluid pressure at the front seal is usually caused by worn bushings, pump, stator shaft, or convertor hub allowing excess fluid through to the area behind the seal. I'm not sure about the E4OD but on some chebby's (700R4 etc) you can enlarge the drainback passages so the fluid drains out faster and doesn't blow out the seal.

i kinda doubt that it was caused by any worn parts. tranny's only a 1 1/2 years old, built by faubion motorsports. i filled it with fluid and it still worked. i've got the tranny out and i'm replacing the seal, we'll see what happens. thanks for the tips guy's

i just got done getting it back together. filled her up, crossed my fingers and fired that mother up. no leaks(yippie) i checked the fluid topped it off and let it idle while i picked up the tools. checked for leaks again nothing(good), drove it home from the shop and everything seemed to be working fine. i didn't get on to it much as it's pouring out right now and didn't wanta take the chance of something happening and having to hoof it in the dark and rain. checked again at home for leaks and all seems to be good. aug. 6th is the next race so we'll find out if it holds:thumbs

i have pm'd him, he sent me back a very short message, stating that ford had updated the seal and to just try putting a new one back in. he was having some computer problems so we really didn't get a chance to talk.
