Driving down the road today..radio up....a/c blowing............having an ok day.

Then I hear a noise for a split second and it sounded like driving on the rough edge of the road. Took it to the tire shop and pulled off the hub assy that I just had replaced 3 weeks ago. Reason why we replaced it is because when we spun it by hand it squeeked and was rough.

So after paying for getting that fixed...then paying for my wifes rebuilt transmission.....it did it AGAIN:rant When we had it in the shop the guy said the axel had some play in it, side-to-side. Is it suppose to have any play?? I'm thinking the axle shaft is slipping out a little bit and slipping back in. Is that possible?

Ok. I asked my dad what he thought and he said that anytime that work like that has to be done (especially after the wheel bearings going out while driving) the it needs to be re-aligned. Can a mis-alignment cause anything like this? I know one time I had to put a spare tire on my rear driver side that was about half the size I got on now and I could feal a "pop" in the rear end when I drove.

Took my hubs out and drove it down the road. Seemed to do better. I had both the hubs out..in my hand. I spun the driver side hub and it seemed resistant and not a lot of noise. I spun the passenger side huband it spun smoother making a clicking sound like the wheel of fortune. I swapped the passenger and driver side hub to see if it followed the hubs. I think I could feel the passenger side hub (was the driver side hub) pull a little bit, but couldnt really tell because I was on the driver side. I swapped the hubs back around to the way they originally was and didn't feel it again. I drove about 20miles doing all of this. I'm thinking its a bad hub and its trying to engage while going down the road but the splines keep kicking it back out. I can also see my driver side rotor is scored pretty rough...unlike my passenger side which is still got some shine on it. So I think I'll buy some Warn hubs and a new driver side calliper/rotor.
