I was reading about the upcoming diesel in Fords line. It will have a new design with the valley containing the Exhaust and the intake where the exhaust used to be. It will use a new Compacted Graphite Iron (?) block with Aluminum Cylinder heard. The new heads will have six bolts per cylinder to keep the head gaskets happy. The story is here: The Ford Story: A New Era in Ford Diesel Technology for Pickups Starts Now

Good reading!

Dave :)

As with the past three new diesels, wait a year or two to get all of the bugs out. One can dream...

I'm with you Dave. Give it a couple of years and if they hold together, we'll probably all be wanting one.

Get me one for my towing and turn the 02 into a serious fun toy!

I hate to be the skeptic but it looks way too complicated to be extremely reliable.:watchout

that's what we've said about every new engine they have come out with... the 6.0 seemed that way at first but with a few mods and labor they can be very realiable... its a waiting game... like the fellas said give them a few years to work it out and we will see :) who knows :dunno

I agree- way too much to go wrong and most is so complicated that the average guy can't even do much work on them.

My John Deere tractors aren't too bad yet; though between the 2002 and 2005 identical models that I have they made changes for EPA crap like adding a radiator to cool the diesel fuel. According to the manual if the fuel gets too warm it will reduce the tractor's output power
