Attached are a couple of pictures I took of the experimental "antenna" I was using Sunday evening.............ie a 100' parking lot light pole. Essentially I had a 100' whip on the back of the truck. lol

I am using an Icom 706MKIIG radio through a AH-4 antenna coupler. I connected the whip to the light pole and made contact with the following stations............

K8HLM Lookups: 1884
Huron Lightship Museum Amateur Radio Club
1613 Hazelwood Ln
Port Huron MI 48060
USA

W4NH Lookups: 2645

F5PFP Lookups: 3828
Escoffier Mehdi
23 rue du Colombier
Heyrieux 38540
FRANCE

Couldn't stay long because mall security was giving me the eye........lol.

Tbar your nutz!
I run the same rig in my 96 along with a Kenwood 440 rig.
I normally just throw a wire up in a tree, never tried a light pole, guess the tuner did not mind?
Do you do CW? Thats about all I run anymore. Got a WWII tank key that clamps on my leg and can go at while mobile. Hey no worse than talking on a cell phone while driving!!
Wish I had more time I really enjoy it.
Last year when we hit the CO mountians I took along the Kenwood TS-450S and strung some wires in a few trees, did not do too well as I connected the 12v up backwards and the radio took a dump! But in the end, nothing that could not be fixed. This summer it will be WY and I will try again, this time marking the + and - a little more clearly!

Oh I forgot to ask, do you have a problem with engine interfence? I do big time and finally figured out its the IDM. Found someone to make a filter but the cost was like 600 bucks, so I just live with it!

No..........don't do CW. I did see a guy the other day that had one of those leg clamp keyers.........that is pretty kool !

With field day coming up I am thinking about hooking this thing up to a long barb wire fence. Maybe it will work........maybe it won't. We will see.

Honestly..........I didn't realize just how much engine interferance I had until today. It is pretty bad.

Need to try to get some filters on it and add somemore ground cables.

On the way to SA today I did some work on 20meters............also had the Kenwood D700 running APRS and 2 meter simplex.
