Hi all-

I am about 30k on trans fluid, its about time to change it. What about the transfer case? I do not see a change interval on that. Is there one???

Ford CD says the transfer case is standard MERCON fluid. What is the thinking on that?

I am going to service the pumpkins again- I can get Valvoline SynPower locally, cheaper than Mobil 1. Has anyone used it? Can you recommend it?

EDIT: Full Synthetic Gear Oil

will i need the friction modifier as well if i use full syn?

thanks

Dennis..
you don't need the friction modifier unless you have the little clutch packs in the read diff.

I got the Valvoline gear lube in Mighty Whitey at the moment..
hasn't hosed anything up so far..

I just change the t-case fluid at the same time..
no guessing about the last time you did it, and the three or four quarts of ATF is cheap insurance...

ps.. thanks for the heads up on the DP Tuner
I owe YOU a case of beer now...

ahh grasshopper... no wait, i'm grasshopper! nevermind.. i am glad the jody and diane took care of you.

i am pretty sure i have the limited slip diffs, i will check the tags, but iirc, i have the ls73105 tags. can i positively once the diff cover is off ?

the modifier is cheap enough, $5 from powerstrokeshop, so I will gamble it on my order of other stuff.

what confuses me is that the FMC fluid is synthetic and they spec the modifier. is the modifier slipperier or stickier?

I was hoping to find Schaeffers, but i can not get it locally, and it does not seem to come in quarts, only 5 gallons pails. :dunno:

ps: Trackspeeder, what is up with your avatar? slow day at work?

well, you're only gonna have a limited slip rear diff..
when you pull the cover, you're going to see no side gears, just these little motorcycle clutch looking things on each side... in which case, you'll need the modifier..

if you see two side & two spider gears, you got a "one-sie tracker" just like the rest of the homies... :tounge

and Trackspeeder?
who in the hell would wanna load a backhoe onto a gravity car? :dunno
