I see that the temps across the country are rather cold. Next Saturday (3rd)I'll be leaving Seattle via I-90 to Billings I-94 back down to I-90 and on to Buffalo. My biggest concern is the overnight temps in MT and ND. If we drive straight through with no problems, I can almost make St. Paul. Do the hotels in MT, ND, and MN have plug ins for the truck? I'll be easy to spot, green truck pulling a green Jetta with WA plates.

Yup... all most all of the 3 stars or better have Polls that sit out by the curb with a spot to plug in, bring your own extetion cord. Also some Wax paper, When you close the doors for the night, Put the Wax Paper between the door and the cab... other wise may be a bit ruff getting the door open in the AM...

I used to shoot to SD 2-3 times a year... Gets F-ing cold at night... Xtra so when there is a wind.... and there is almost always a wind....

BTW We're Gonna miss you up here....

The temps for the weekend here is down to -10 at nite so I would for sure put in something like Howes aditive or blend your fuel with no. 1 diesel. Its -25 or so with wind chill and blowing snow.

I generally use Power Service or Stanadyne. Will those work? The Jetta (TDI) will be sitting on the trailer for the entire trip so I am planning on giving it a real good dose before loading it up.

Use the diesel fuel supplement not the diesel kleen and you should be good to -40. If you really want to get carried away you could put in some off their artic express.

Intellicast.com provides good weather maps.

if youre gonna put stuff in the tank of the tdi make sure you run the
car enough to make sure the anti-gel gets into the fuel lines etc.

and remember a FULL tank adds weight (personally id be doin my best
to make sure the TDI's tank was empty)...from what i understand the
pacific nw has some of the most expensive fuel anyway...why haul the
'spensive stuff 'cross country if you dont have to.

I asked her today how much fuel she had and her reply was I'm filling up tomorrow. Nope, Half tank only. Gotta save room for some other stuff as well as maximize tongue weight. It looks like I'll be following the cold front. Oh well, usually if it is that cold there is no need to worry about heavy snows. Besides, my little brother is driving with me. He can get out and fill'er up!
