OK.. my wife drives my old truck, an '88 F150 4x2, equipped with the venerable 4.9L. I-6 and the infamous Mazda 5-speed, and dual fuel tanks. Remember the dual tanks part. -popcorn
Yes, I have rebuilt the transmission. Remember the dual tanks. -popcorn
This old truck is a horror to look at, and a handfull to keep straight on the road, but being a 2wd shortbox, you can wheel it in places some larger ATV's can't go... remember the dual tanks. -popcorn
so tonight I'm bopping home in it (family played musical trucks so kid could help a friend move)... remember the dual tanks. -popcorn
So I'm idling at a stoplight, look in the left side rearview, and I notice fuel running out of the front tank filler pipe. I think to myself, man, if this tank has a problem, I better empty it toot-sweet and flip the selector to "F" -popcorn
As soon as I flip the tank selector, fuel quits running out of the filler. Huh. That's pretty wierd. I flip the tank selector back to R. -popcorn
As soon as I do, fuel starts POURING out of the front tank filler pipe.
WTF?? Oh this is cool... the selector solenoid is FUBAR..
So I call Ford when I get home.. expecting to hear the part has been obsoleted (the truck is 20 years old, ya know...) not only is it currently available, the dealership has TWO on hand!
And my cost (through the shop) is well less than $100.!
Sometimes, I win one!
well, kinda; I still have to fork over some scratch for the new part, but at least I don't have to play the "run the front tank till it's empty, switch to the back tank till IT'S empty, then switch BACk to the front tank untill it's empty AGAIN" game
