Has anyone just ran a straight pipe to a turn-down in front of the rear axle? If so, did you have any issues? Exhaust fumes building up under the truck?

I have been running my truck with the back half of the exhaust (including muffler) removed since Saturday. I had to pull it to complete a roadside repair, and I like the way it sounds. I have a four inch system from the turbo back and never had a cat. I have had some issues with clearance above the axle and dented the pipe previously. I like the idea of being heard, but no tailpipe visible. I have smashed the tip on several occasions anyway (I know a lift kit may resolve that). The truck is a CC L/B.

I have it. I just recently removed my tailpipe because I installed a larger
(315/75/16) spare tire and I had clearence issues with the tailpipe. Went to NAPA and got a 90 degree turndown.

Its ok....I do notice exhaust smell a little more now when standing near the bed of the truck when it is sitting idle. One thing I do notice more is the turbo whistle sound in the cab. It is a little louder because of the reverb off the ground. I have been running it for about 3 weeks now.

I am thinking of taking my truck in to the exhaust shop to see if they can create a system that will clear my larger spare. We'll see though. I recently acquired a little wire welder so I may experiment with my tailpipe and see if I can "create" something myself. :thumbs

After reading that last line.......that didn't come out right.

If you don't like thw turn down, you could bring it out in front of the rear tire like the older F150's. That would look good with 2 3" tips:sly

Yeah....I actually thought about doing that. I still might actually. I just worry about it being too loud for the people sitting on the passenger side.

i would think anything sticking out the side is going to be a lot quieter than having it directly under the truck

Run it back to were it dumps under the bed instead of the cab. I have a friend who tried both. Under the cab is loud but under the bed makes it less. Anytime you bring it closer to the cab it will be louder but not to bad or he didn't mind much.

Ford had to recall and refit all of those because the exhaust discolored the wheel on that corner
