Let me start with I love my truck , Just not today! The motor on the transfer case burned up and I need to shift it into 4wheel. I removed the controler from the transfer case and just need to know which way to turn the shaft . Does it turn clockwise for 4 high and four low or clockwise for one and counter for the other?:dunno

Not sure to be honest with you, I changed my ESOF motor last year and was able to move the shaft with a small crescent wrench and put the transfer case in and out of 4x4, but I dont recall which way I turned it. Pull the motor off (3 bolts and the connector) and turn the shaft, you'll know if you are in hi or low. ;)

If you need to shift the transfer case , remove the shifter motor and turn the shaft counterclockwise one notch for 4x4 high and one more notch in the same direction for 4x4 low.

Did you get a new motor? I got one from NAPA for just a hair over $100.00 last year and I think it was over $400 from Ford.

The ford dealer hasnt changed much. They still want 300 and I ordered one for 124.00 online. I still want to make it a manual shift eventually.

you may know this already, so i am not sure how often you use 4wd, but it always good practise to engage 4wd(even 4-lo) 2 or 3 times a month. just to keep things moving freely....:2c

I actually use 4 wheel a lot . I even pull the hubs apart every fall so that when I plow the hubs dont hang up. it just happened I was pulling a 34' x 12' Park model camper when my transfer case motor burned up . I,ll post some pictures for the next guy because I looked all over for help and there seems to more people with the problem then the answer.
