Can you buy a new 7.3 PSD crate engine from Ford or Navistar? I don't know if I have a problem or not, but if I do, it would need to be solved with a new engine or at least a new short block.

I'm guessing the 7.3 is still available form Navistar, what kind of problem do you have that would require a new block to fix........ cringing as I type this.....

You're cringing and it isn't yours.

Changed the oil last week and found big chunks of metal in the bottom of the drain pan. Don't know if it came from the truck or something else. It wouldn't have to be a new engine, it could be rebuilt, but a new shortblock would be about the easiest.

What year is your engine? I recall something about oil tubes falling or breaking off and landing in the pan? Anybody else here got some info to back me up? IIRC it is a semi-serious problem, but not a "youre gonna need a new block" problem.

It's a 99 F350 4x4 auto, got it in September of 98. 130k miles, two sets of front ball joints, lots of brakes and rotors and such, one CPS, and one water pump. Been a fantastic truck.

All PSDs have piston oilers that have been known to come loose. They bolt to the block above the crank. I think sometimes they get smashed on the way to the bottom of the pan, some have reported seeing undamaged ones through the drain hole. The engine has to get pulled to have them checked.

Are the pieces aluminum, cast iron or steel tubing like material?-popcorn
