This morning my emissions light came on and continued to stay on throughout the day. Any ideas on what my cause this? (note--I have no cat and my PSD is chipped, its been that way for 6 or 7 months, so I don't know why it would come on now!... and i haven't done anything the manual says will cause this.)

What is your truck??? Fill out your signature by going to User CP, above and filling out the information. This will help us help you.

thanks dave, im pretty new to the site and when i tried earlier i guess i did something wrong...ill work on that...... my truck: 2003 F350 extended cab short bed..6.0L, torqshift, 4x4, i deleted the cat and muffler, and im running the edge juice w/attitude, i haven't leveled it yet but that is next on the to-do list. ...thanks for being patient, one of these days ill have it figured out...by the way i love the site and im trying to round up more memebers from the midwest.

there we go! thanks...also where did you find a 3 inch leveling kit?... I found a 2 inch kit and the price is pretty good but 3 inch would make a more noticable difference (after looking at your truck you know what i mean...i hate the nose dive!)

Thanks Strokepower, that will help us a lot. I would believe the SES light (Service Engine Soon) is what you are referring to. It could be the EBP sensor (Exhaust Back Pressure) or the EGR valve. It will require a code reader or a trip to Ford to have them scan your truck. If you get a scanner for your truck, be certain that it will read CAN communications. Most scanners will NOT read Ford Diesel Trucks. Auto Xray and Autoenginuity both make scanners that will. Autoenginuity makes a software package that you load into your computer (laptop is best) to scan your truck.

your "average" (read: CHEAP) code reader wont find some codes and
unless its a california truck the SES/CEL/MIL light wont turn on for
most of the "typical" problems.

Ive had EGR codes and never saw any kinda check engine or malifunction
indicator lamp turn on.

theres no guessing what could turn on the lights...get a GOOD code reader
(diagnostics and testing come w/ autoenginuity)

a word of advice...when these "lights" turn on you should get it checked
for problems or codes...as an example on a gasoline car if this were a bad
o2 sensor the computer would/could adjust the fuel mixture such that it
could over heat and melt the catalyst in catalytic converter.

left long enough w/ a plugged converter you COULD burn valves.

i doubt you have that to worry about in the diesel but these lights
shouldnt be ignored.

A buddy of mine at the local automotive shop scanned the truck for me and said that it was some kind of valve sensor, and that whenever the light came on the rpms were at 0, so the truck wasn't even on....this seems very strange to me!!!....(he was pretty busy and he scanned it for free so i didn't have time to really talk) whatever the case the light is off and nothing on the truck seems to be malfunctioning... thanks for the advice we'll see what happens in the next couple of days.

Alright heres the scoop, its supposedly an Injector control pressure sensor, and it is going to cost me about $140 or so...i hope that fixes the problem if not...who knows!
