My Chevy had a plug that just plugged right into a panel under the steering wheel does this hold true for the fords as well when it comes to wiring for electric brakes. Thanks

First off, Welcome to SSD.Glad you found us.
We need to know what year truck you are talking about.
Most of them all ready have the wire in the middle of the hump, tucked under the peace of rubber that comes down to the carpet.

im curious about this too. when I bought my truck about 1 year ago it didnt even have a trailer light plug. you can see where there used to ba a bracket bolted to the bottom of the bumper, but must have been broke off and never replaced. I hooked up a flat four wire plug for general towing but would eventually like to put a round (7 I think) plug on for pulling my friends camper when we go camping. (he has a F-150, so it makes more sense for me too pull for him) Im looking for the stock replacement for it, ive seen them on newer trucks at the dealership any ideas where i can find them? other than the dealership...

Back to the subject at hand - powere brakes, would this be the "tow command" like you see at the Powerstroke Shop?? or would i be able to use a diff. version that usuuall bolts under the dash near right leg?

Not sure where it will be on your truck but on my '99 F350 the plug is under the dash sort of behind the A/C controls and cubby. On my '96's it was up behind the radio, but you should have a plug under there someplace.

On my 2000 it was tucked up and found behind the 4x4 switch on the dash, I just yanker her down, pluged it in and mounted the brake controler. I went with a Valley Odyssey Inertia Activated Electric Trailer Brake Controller. Its a good unit, I use it pulling my 28' flatbed with my pulling truck. My trailer is about 12K lbs loaded.

under the dash just to the right of teh gas pedal, wil be sort of tucked and taped. most even have tape on them that read "brake controller", but sometimes they hide real well.
then depending on your controller you can order the harness that plugs right in. prodigy i know for certain comes with the right plug when you order it.
I am sure most of the others do to, real simple.
and ford also inlcudes a pigtail adapter to plug into the plug under your dash, and it allows a splicing into the brake controller harness so you can just plug into the factory plug just in case you get an oddball controller that does not include an adapter.
