Yes, I know. mpg questions abound. This is more directed at the Edge Evolution.

Normally I get anywhere from 18 - 20 on the hiway. I have had the Edge on the 60 setting because the 80 felt too harsh. Last week when I drove 300 miles each way on a trip I only got 15 on the way down. Before I came back I put it back to stock and got 18. I had to fill once on each leg of the trip midway so I had several fills to check mileage and it was fairly consistent.

Were there different Evolutions made for the OBS 7.3 and the 99+ 7.3? Any ideas why I would see such a drop in mileage from the 60hp setting? I dont particularly like the feel of the 80hp setting in everyday driving but would it be any better?

Thanks for your input...

I ran the Evo on my early 99' for about a year and a couple of months. And I got better mileage on the higher settings. I ran it on the 80 setting most of the time and then the 100 setting some of the time. Fuel mileage with a chip or programmer depends alot on your right foot. I kinda look at it this way a truck with more power can get you where you want to be easier than a truck with less power. That being said before you mayu have to give it 3/4 throttle to accelerate, and now you only have to give it 1/2 throttle. Also a truck running down the highway isn't gonna have to work as hard if it has twice as much power as the one with half as much power. Don't know if it makes sense just kinda what I got out of it. I have had a SuperChips, Evo, Juice/Attitude and DP flip chip. Non of these seemed to make any difference in my mileage. I now am running the J/A and DP in tandem and the only effect on mileage is that it goes down with the right foot pressure. One thing I have found out is, that every one of these engines is different and will get varying amounts of economy. Just about everything one does seems to change the mileage. They seem to be consistent in inconsistency.

well maybe I'll try the 80 again. I got it from Roosterdiesel and he ran the 80 with a small overall mileage improvement. However, he has a 99 so the setup is different. I got used to the power increase and managed to keep my foot out of it after the first couple of weeks so my loss was not from that. Maybe the 80 is just better tuned than the 60? I guess we'll see.

Thanks for the input.

a slight hi-jacking here, but jimmydee, i believe that is the best way i have heard on how to describe the very vehicles we drive.:sweet

Well I got a slight mileage gain running the 80hp like you already stated. There's only one Evo for the 7.3s so I don't think thats it. I was going to say maybe winter fuel but you checked it on the same trip between stock and 60hp.....I don't really know what to say....maybe your tires are low on air.:dunno

wouldnt my tires have to be FLAT? I also thought maybe it was winter fuel but, yeah, I tested it. I even did a ULSD and LSD comparison and it was the same. I meant to put it back up to 80 today but never got to it. Oh well, no big deal really. I can always go back and forth. I still like the kick in the pants it gives me!
