Dumb Question #4056, Bed interchange.

I am in search of a replacement bed for my SD due to rust around the wheelwells. I have heard that '97-'03 beds fit all F150-350 wether SD or not, obviously assuming all are long bed single wheel rear wheels. They all "look" the same to me but I recently purchased a topper for it that was advertised as for my F350 and when we tried to install it the darn thing was about a foot too narrow and several inches too short so I'm gun shy now. Thanks!

I don't have the dimensions on hand but there is no way a bed off a 97 F-150 is going to fit a 99 and up Super Duty.
Even when they changed the F-150 design in '97 the 250 and 350's continued with the OBS until the 99 SD's came out.

99 and up SD beds will interchange.
F150 is another animal. They will not work.

that topper does not sound right. i had a pre-SD topper on my SD for a while. length was about right. it was a hair narrow at the front and real close at the rear. the bed rails were exposed.

you can try the fleet.ford.com site for the 'body builders guide' for your years to see if the dimensions are even close.

The tailgate is the same, but the beds are definitly not.

Thanks for all the info guys, "Honest Johns" used truck parts doesn't sound like the place I'll be picking up my replacement be. . . .unless I see it come off of a SD>

Might be cheaper in the long run to buy new bed sides and have them installed then purchase a used bed. If you buy a used bed, you will probably just have the same problem down the road (if it comes from the northern states anyway).
