Had to put the Five Hundred in the "hospital" today. Wife started to work and it wouldn't start. The starter would spin, and the engine would almost start, then would go dead. I took her to work, then came back and kept trying to start it. Finally called the dealer, and they gave me the number of their towing service. Just as I dialed their number, the car finally started and sputtered some as I started toward the dealership. My salesman let me use his demo (Expedition Limited), and my wife got to drive it home from her office. Really makes us miss our Expedition we had before the Five Hundred. It's only got about 400 miles, but the ride is sooooo good. It has all the "bells and whistles" (rear camera, air suspension, rear dvd, navigation system, etc.), lists for $47000+. Hopefully the car will be ready tomorrow (they were still running diagnostic checks on it late today). When we get the Five Hundred paid down a bit more, we'll probably get another Expedition. This one was showing 14-15 mpg on the computer. Guess that's not too bad for the 5.4 engine.

Thats good for a 5.4. The digital display in our 5.4 powered F150 was so depressing that I turned it off. Now waiting to see how the 09' F150 Diesels do..

My girlfriend has an 07 Expedition Limited, with the factory 20" wheels she gets 17-18 mpg. In summer, with her bling bling 22's she gets 14.

My wife was driving it as we came from her office in Dallas last night and got it to the 15 mpg reading. I had previously had it around 14.5. She was teasing me that the higher mileage rating was because she was driving. However, today it was showing 15.3. The window sticker said that the rating is 12 city/18 highway/14 combined. I wish they'd left the 4.6 in it, but evidently the 5.4 with the 6 speed transmission is just as economical if not better.

This one also had the 20" factory wheels. The color was Vapor Silver, but it looked more like a dark sand color. I got the Five Hundred back today, and they couldn't find out why it wouldn't start. The diagnostic check didn't show any codes and they said they tried it numerous times, and it started every time. I did have the fuel filter changed, along with the oil (both were due). They did say the filter was a bit clogged but was still okay.

I told my salesman that I sure hated to give back his keys. He said that he is currently driving a Super Duty (as he usually does), but it is loaned out, so he's been driving the Expedition for a few days, and went home last night in an Escape. He said that if he had to take anything smaller home, he might as well walk. I should have reminded him that he could ride his Harley (personal ride).

Crumm, I just realized after my previous post that the Expy has the 6 speed transmission where the F-150 has a 4 speed. That's probably part of the reason for the better mileage. Plus the Expy is fully enclosed and the 150 has an open bed. Of course, I'm sure that no two vehicles will get the same mileage even if they're "identical" as far as engine and drivetrain. What axle ratio does your 150 have? The Expy's is 3.73.

I like our Expi in form and function but feel that the 5.4 is under powered and gets mediocre mileage at best. Ridiculous that an "X" which is twice the size and diesel powered puts the Expi to shame.

Shame on the greenies for pressuring Ford into removing the "X" from production while they buy up these mid sized SUV's that cant get better than 15-16 mpg like they are going out of style.

I'll tell ya what, Crumm. Your wife and mine have the same truck from the posts I've read. IMHO the truck will need a complete makeover. You throw in the weight, power, torque etc, from a real diesel and I don't see that truck holding together. Especially the front end. Maybe we can get official Ford parts nets to drag behind the damn things. Not a fan of F150 :rant
