Hey fellas, I got a question. We got an Int'l 4700 lo-profile w/Altec crane. The problem is that it's got air-brakes. I've been driving it. No big deal. Kinda fun actually. It's got real high gears tho. redlines at around 58-60. Anyway. Do I need a CDL License or Permit? What's the difference? It's DOT, but so is everything else we got. Im on a class d now. Any help would be good thanks guys.

What is the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) Rating of the truck? Do you intend to pull a trailer behind this truck and if so what is the GVW of the trailer? This will help answer your question.

I was told that the GVW was under the CDL requirement, and no trailers. But the big concern is the airbrakes.

if the gvw is under 26000 (being a 4700 it should be under 26000) you dont need a cdl but you better have your dot physical card.

you will absolutely at the very least need an air brake provision on your non cdl license. i would venture to say you will need a class b cdl.

there is no air brake endorsement for regular class d license in MA.if its under 26000 pound gvw you dont need a cdl whether it has air or juice brakes.but as i said you better have the DOT medical card ON you at all times.if you dont have one just go to a walk in clinic and get it.its $75.00.

Gee thanks guys. Thanks for the quick info. I have been checking around the MA RMV site, but it wasn't very clear. I already got the DOT Health Certificate, because I needed it to drive a GM 1-ton dump truck for my old job (landscaping). I carry it all the time. Thanks guys.:notworthy
