hey BD Gods. My truck is a 99' with 128,000 miles on it. I ran a tankfull of B-100 a few weeks ago. Tank is 40 gls wich equated to about 450 miles on that tank of bio. I changed the fuel filter after i ran the bio out. The question is if my filter was dirty, would i have been able to see any type of gime in it? One of the reasons why i ran the bio was to hopefully clean out my fuel system and i would see some improved milage after it was cleansed. is a fuel system dirty at my kind of milage? And if so, would one tank of bio clean it or to i need to run alot more bio to actually do a cleaning?

thanks doug

keep going. I ran b100 for a couple of months and never did see anything in my filter. It never clogged either but I changed it just for measure.

dirty system would be dependent upon many factors so there is no yes/no answer to your system seeing crud at your mileage. You may just need to run a few more tanks but then you may not see any crud.

if you can get it, keep running it. I wish I could.

Doug,

It will depend on the truck and how it was ran prior to your ownership. My first two tanks of B20 turned my filter black. But, as you can see from TX_Atty's above post he didn't have the same results.
So, you might have a lot of grime, or you may not have any. Just depends.:dunno

My truck's tanks were mildly dirty when I switched to B100 at 240K but my friends '97 with 98K was disgusting. There had been some old #1 sitting in his front tank and when he changed to B100 the fuel filter became very black after just one tankful. Mileage alone can not be the sole cause of a dirty tank. I'd think you should keep the filter in there until you notice a drop in MPGs or poor acceleration.

I didn't clog a filter for months after switching to Biodiesel. Eventually a bunch of black chunks broke loose and clogged the filter. Been fine since. Biodiesel may take awhile to loosen hard deposits.

so then boys, is it unheard of to see an increase in fuel milage after the bio has cleansed the fuel system. or is that just a fantasy. cause there are plenty of other fantasies i could be enjoying other than fuel milage.

Expect 10% less

bioD has less 'stored' energy per gallon. see this page at the BioDiesel Board

So technically, on a pure energy to burn content, you will be 5-10% down in mileage based on fuel alone. The real benefit of running it is not for mileage increase but cost per gallon and the lubricicity and emissions reduction.

That is a good site to learn about the advantages of BioD.

If you are looking to raise overall mileage, then put your truck specs in your sig- maybe we can offer you other suggesions to raise it.

im not talking about milage while running bio. im talking about milage increase using regular diesel after the bio has cleaned the fuel system.
