I got a diesel down 911 call. Guy leaving Loneoak on the way to Jasper broke down pulling a trailer with a tractor on it. He called one the NTPSA members in Jasper who called one of our members up here and he called me. Unfortunantly I was in Arlington this evening so another NTPSA member went to help him. He just called saying they have no fuel in the bowl and the pump is just barley humming. Sounds like the pump is shot and the guy is 200 miles from home.

Can there be an obstruction or something hung in the pump and will a little tapping on the pump case free it up?

Any ideas that might help at 10:40pm at night???

You could pull the pump off and tap it on a piece of wood to see if there's anything plugging the inlet. If there's no pre-pump filter than the screens in the mixing valve may be plugged assuming stock pick-up.

Other than that sounds like a pump gone bad, how many miles on the truck

I can't get hold of them right now but when I do I will suggest that.

I wonder if pulling the lift pump off the tractor and using it might work. (if it is electrical) He might be able to limp home. :dunno

I got the pump off....we hooked battery cables to it
and no nothing, just a quick little jerk and no hum, no spin, no nothing
I got a 97, so no electrical fuel pump, is this a valid way to test the pump?

anybody got part numbers for this pump? autozone, pepboys, etc
the truck is stuck in lone oak about 45 miles from dallas,
there is a small parts store in town, but it doesnt open until 10am
tomorrow, and I seriously doubt they have one anyway,,,I checked autozone
online, and the website said they dont carry the pump in stores :dunno

any help would be appreciated, they guy is down along way from home
and needs to work monday..if I can dig up a pump, was gonna take it to him in the morning and get him on the road...

thanks..

SUCCESS!!!

After working 4-5 hours last night and 4-5 hours today Rusty got the mans truck running again.

They replaced the fuel pump today but could not get it to prime. Finally pulled the intake hose loose on the pump, dropped it into a container of fuel and primed the system.........then hooked it back up to the tank.

Many thanks to Rtxcoon for his tireless effort in helping a stranger get back on the road.
