I used my defroster a couple days ago and havent used it since. Today I turned on my AC which automatically started coming out of the defrost because thats where it was set from the last use. The problem is that I can not get it to switch from that position. The compressor comes on and blows cold cold air. I push all the buttons (face, floor, ext.) but it only will blow out the defrost. All the lights in the display work. Ex. when you push face it lights up on the display it just wont switch from defrost. I have never had any problems with this truck. I just hit 100,000 miles guess this is where the fun starts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That condition points to a weak/failed vacuum pump. That's what the truck uses to switch from each output position...I guess they default to defrost for safety reason...

im willing to bet you have have Electronic shift on the fly for your 4 wheel drive and if you turn that to 4x4 you won't actually be in 4x4 til you manually lock in your hubs.... like Ben said... it has to do with your vaccum lines/pump.... idk what the "fix" is but that is where you should start looking to get it solved... good luck

That is correct about the 4 wheel drive. When I bought the guy told me to make sure I locked the hubs manually because it would do it automatically. Once I lock the front the 4 wheel drive works properly w/ the inside switch as far as high and low lock. Wondering is common on these trucks? Does anyone know where piece is located on the truck and if there are any specialty tools required for fixing? Also a approx cost if anyone knows (for the part only) Thanks again appreciate the help

I think vacuum failure is common (at least it is on my truck) -- I've replaced mine two or three times and it needs it again.

Your vacuum pump is on the passenger side fender well, behind that battery. Should have an orange plug going to it.

No special tools required, 10MM wrench should be all.

6C3Z-2A451-A should be a good part number for you.

There could also be a leak, so you should inspect the vacuum lines where they go to make sure that you just don't have a leak.

From whats been described..Especaily the ESOF vac lines that operate the front hubs. Common failure it seems.. on any year Ford with ESOF.

If one of the ESOF lines is leaking ? yer loosing the Vac power to operate the Heat/AC controls.

I checked the pump and it is working but noticed it just ran and ran and wouldnt shut off which told me there must be a leak. After clamping vice grips on the line coming out of each hub, the defrost, face and floor worked fine. I blocked the vacuum line coming out of the pump that feeds the hubs and now everything works normal. I will just have to lock in manually now which I prefer to do anyway.(like to know what I have) I appreciate all the help.
Thank You
