i got this link passed on to me-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nnjTLFq22M

its not for the kiddies to see. it's of a couple of deer fighting. one is shot with an arrow looks like DURING the fight. the two have their antlers locked. the shot one dies, the live one drags it around, into a stream. eventually the live one snaps off its locked antler off at the base.

the thing that gets me is that its not clear if the one that got shot was shot before the fight or during. the first frames of the video, the deer does not look like its been shot, then shortly thereafter, it has an arrow and gushing blood. allegedly, you can hear the one deer break its neck and die.

this is frightneing on many levels-

did the deer get shot DURING its fight or before?

the two guys 'released' the other deer- by breaking off the locked antler?
survivor had one heck of a headache....

makes you wonder what they would have done if they had another buck tag.

look at the arrow- its pretty much hanging out of the deer, ie NO penetration. bad equipment choice or a bad shot.

on the whole, a very poor display of sportsmanship all the way around. and we wonder why the peta folks have so much on us hunters- we GIVE it to them!

regretably

This is an old video (more than a year) and the deer with the arrow sunk in it was a clean kill. That deer (unlocked) would have went no more than a hunert yards and expired.

Maybe they didnt have two buck tags? If you were sitting in a stand all day and these two bucks locked up below you, would you not sink an arrow into one of them?

PETA?

No further comment.

so the two fought after it got shot? i can not see that occuring. a good shot, that deer would be down quick. i could not see it having the strength to fight.

me: even if i went all season without seeing one, and these two show up, i wouldn't shoot during the fight.

after is a different matter- but not sure on that either now that i think about it.

my crack about peta is that we GIVE them the 'evidence' they use against us in their propaganda. seen the bowfishign video- how do you think they got that? you know some grass eating vegan didn;t ask to accompany the bowfishers to film it for a peta documentary?

me: i hunt and fish and am proud of it. i don't do the NRA, i do NSSF. i wasnt desparaging hunting, only the 'stupid' mentality that this video promotes.

I would have taken the shot............I have mixed feelings about video taping the kill though.

I am pretty sure that the buck was shot AFTER locking up with the second buck, the second buck was released with no harm (pretty humane act IMHO) and unless a law was broken in the taking of the first buck, PETA doesnt have a leg to stand on.

Its very hard to discuss ethics concerning hunting/fishing. Catch and release may seem ethical to you but not to others, killing in general (population control) may seem ethical to you but not to others. Ethics cannot really be discussed, what can be discussed however is legalities and whether laws were broken.

ethically speaking, I dont think anybody should use cream in thier coffee.
