Cost of ball joints

Well.....took truck in for free tire rotation and alignment today. They said......you need to replace your ball joints. I knew it was coming. 76k miles and I was hearing a "clunk". I was going to do it myself, but they shot me a "deal". I am paying $700 to replace all ball joints (with MOOG greasable ones) plus alignment plus tire rotation.

I know........I could probably have done it myself for about $300, but I am leaving for a 2500 mile Canada trip in 2 weeks and don't have time.

Ok.....go on......tell me how much I got screwed.

Nope you needed to get it done and I know how rare wrenching time can be available after family & work commitments

nope I did mine this summer and it sucked every inch of the way. if I had half of that I would put the rest of it on credit.

one of the wost things to do on this truck.

they're not bad to do, but then you get into
"well, as long as I'm down here"
and
"darn, broke that, too"
four hours plus in labor + nearly a hundred bucks a chunk on ball joints, you're OK.

Sounds like a sweet deal. I need to get mine done. Sure that I am going to be doing them in the drive way. Well be lookin for insight when the time comes.

Good price to have that done, especially with the Moog stuff. I did mine about 4 months ago and it was pretty easy, but I actually enjoy that kind of stuff. I'd do balljoints everyday of my life before messing with any electrical crap.

youre lookin' at no MORE than 250 bucks in parts and thats
a WORST CASE...i did mine for less than 100 per side...got life time
grease-able upper & lower from autozone (ford wont install
lifetime parts...in fact ford is the ONLY place i could find that
DIDNT HAVE GREASE-ABLE BALLJOINT)

borrow the tools (for a refundable deposit) from autozone or anyone
else that sells the ball joints...work on your truck, take your time,
ask questions & KNOW you did the job right and didnt mess anything
else up (and try to hide it, like a dealer would) !

youll sleep PROUD knowing YOU did the work...and saved yourself
500+ bucks !

as for wrenching time & time away from the family...man get the
family and kids involved...show 'em money doesnt grow on trees,
learn something together...spend time under the truck together (great
bonding)...and instill in your family/friends/kids that THEY CAN DO THIS
STUFF TOO !

Justin - Bring it over here...Ive got all the air tools etc...and ive
DONE MINE...you wrench & ill point the pieces out & back you up....
youll be amazed at how easy the job is & how easily youll save $700+

I know what you are talking about bush. I would have done it myself, but with other priorities and a trip in two weeks, I just don't have the time.
