Coolant Leak at Tranny

My truck has developed a small coolant leak at the back of the engine that is dripping from the transmission inspection cover. Is there a freeze plug at the back of the block that could be leaking? Any other ideas?

there are freeze plugs on the back of the heads as well as I believe one on the block that to access you'll need to pull the trans & flexplate off.

I doubt that's the problme but don't have anything infront of me here @ work to help you diagnose the problem.

my 92 did the same thing.... cept it came from the thermostat neck. ran down to dripp off the head and starter.
drove me NUTS til i found it.

do you have the tools to pressure check the coolant system???

hope its not a serious problem.
freeze plugs are easy after you drain the block and ....... pull the tranny if needed ....

Thanks for the input guy's. I found the problem. I have a leak at the neck that finally got bad enough that coolant drips down the block, follows the lip of the oil pan back to the tranny inspection cover and drips out. The leak seals itself up with a warm engine so first thing in the morning is the only time I get to inspect it.

that's not too bad of a problem. If you're already leaking there then you might want to get a new neck and seal and that'd solve the problem. The part number is in the list @ the top of the forum
