Computer accessory electrical question

Howdy all,
Somewhere during a move I lost the power supply to my flight control joy stick. It is a Logitech Wingman Force 3D and on the information sticker the power requirements read: 5Vdc---.100mA & 24Vdc ---.750mA. A "kid" at Fry's Electronics tried to sell me a 5Vdc/2500mA converter and said it would work fine, at Radio Shack the person there said it was too much power and would ruin the controller. Radio Shack did not have the one they were recommending. So my question is.........who was right?

just call Ligitech and tell them you just bought it from Fry's Electronics, and you got home and opened the box and there's no power supply, and the Fry's manager wouldn't take it back because it had been opened..

they'll probably send you one.

not that I've ever done this...

I would say that the mA (miliamp) rating is the MAXIMUM amount of current the transformer will produce. If your devise draws 100 mA, a 2500mA power supply should be fine, as long as the voltage and polarity is the same, but I can't say for sure.
So maybe I'm not much help.

You are correct, the only problem is the 5V supply suggested by Fry's does not suply the 24V needed. One other concern is that a cheap, unregulated supply that is made for 2.5A and only loaded with 100 mA may put out ~5.8V and damage something that needs a regulated 5V but that is unlikely.
