I checked for codes this weekend during a service and pulled two, intermittent cam sensor and a boost code (which I didn't write down). When I added the exhaust brake, I also got one of those donagle thingies that I thought would stop the over boost issues when using the brake. What am I missing here? I thought I read somewhere that when it throws a boost code it defuels the engine? True? Is there a fix for this code when the EBV has been disconnected and used as a brake?

Yeah...I didn't keep it. I was tallking to my BIL (he owns his own shop) last night over how the truck was running after the change and he said next time we pull codes we're going to keep track of the mileage and code numbers for reference.
Maybe I misunderstood the defueling issue. When I wired the EBV up for the exhaust brake, I was pulling the overboost codes (which I understood would de-fuel the engine) when coming down one of our passes with it on. I thought the "donagle" plug was supposed to fool the computer into thinking everything was OK. Guess it isn't.
Oh well, I'm going to change the IPR out next. We've already rebuilt it once so a new one is going in. Maybe that'll take care of the idle issue. What's interesting on the idle is that the AIC doesn't waiver any. The RPM's stay on 654 but it sounds plugged and rocks a little.
I hoping to get it back to the way it was :burnit

the OBS dont defuel.the dongle only tricks the pcm into thinking that the exhaust only has 14PSI of back pressure,not boost pressure.your map sensor detects boost pressure.but i dont think the OBS set a code for over/under boost situations.ive never set a code for it and i run 36PSI of boost pre intercooler30PSI after the intercooler.the code you think was for boost was most likely the 1211 code for the HPOp not keeping up with the ICP demands while on the throttle

I've set the boost code before also.......... P0236 (Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance) which is different than the P0478 (Exhaust Pressure Control Valve High) or P0470 (Exhaust Pressure Sensor Malfunction) EBPV codes.

Any suggestions on how to keep it from setting those codes? I should have been paying more attention to what's going on with these trucks. But when you've had over 160K trouble free miles...

first thing to check if your setting a boost code is the hose from the passengers side intake to the map sensor.make sure its attached tightly,no cracks in it and replace if needed.you may need to replace the MAP sensor,ive never set a boost code on my truck so im not much help on that one.

intermittent cam sensor

replace the CPS and check the wires going to it.

CPS may be from a time that you had to crank a little longer than normal. Seems to me the PCM will set that code after an extender crank and no start.
Map on the boost code....
