Hey all,
Dads trucks clutch is going out, about time since we're pretty sure its the original. I'm 19 years old, learning all I can about maintaining vehicles. I bought the Mercedes in my sig because a diesel truck was too expensive, and I wanted something that would help me learn about working on cars. I have very little automotive experience, but I read a lot and can apply what I learn in the garage without a problem most of the time. I've helped drop a transmission in a 99 Superduty, but it was an auto and pretty basic flywheel replacement.
So whatcha think? I have spring break here in a few weeks. If I read up on it, and give myself the whole week, think I can get a new clutch in (and any other necessary replacements, while I'm in there)? We have a good mechanic that would do it otherwise, so if worse comes to worse we could just let AAA haul it to him. I figure I'll need to rent a clutch centering tool and a transmission jack, other than that we hopefully have all the tools and a garage to work in.
Any recommended articles? Looks like the WIKI doesn't have anything, or I just don't know how to use it properly. I'll look into a higher performance clutch, but Dad probably just wants a basic clutch that will last a while. He's not into high performance, I'm still trying to get him to let me straightpipe the exhaust.
