I bought this truck used 2000 F-250 7.3L 4WD and it makes a noise when engaging the clutch. Pretty sure it is the throw out bearing but figured I would go ahead and replace everything while it is apart. Anybody got and idea of the cost to change out the clutch or what kind of a job it is to tackle?

they're really no worse than any other 4WD setup... take your time, buy the whole kit and try not to get too drunk doing it... two beers an hour is a nice pace...

First off, Welcome to SDD ! A REAL good place to get the information yer asking for.

Be sure you get the up-graded throw-out bearing assembly and clutch fork.

Just my opinion but shared by many here: The FORD OEM replacement clutch assembly is just plain WEAK. Look into an aftermarket assembly that includes a new Flywheel/Pressure plate and bigger better clutch plate.

Don't know how well equiped your shop or garage is but R&R'n a clutch on these things is a Big Job. The 7.3 is heavy and will need to be supported, the Tranny is heavy too and yul need a tranny jack.

Also, Be sure you check the in-put shaft bearing on the tranny for any out of spec play. Seems when the Throw-out Bearing goes, depending on how long it's been going south, it (can) wipe out the in-put shaft bearing too.

Haveing said all this: When I did mine, I bought my own Parts (whole LUK clutch assembly, w/flywheel) and had my FORD garage do the work. Needed a new In-put bearing (tranny tear down to do it) the whole thing, parts & labor was +/- $1600 bucks. Would'a been cheaper without the Tranny in-put bearing.

:dunno

Thanks for the thoughts I think I found someone to do the labor and I am going to get the parts. You recomend getting a new flywheel What about getting the old one resurfaced? Just what I was told I don't know if it is sufficient or not. I do want it done right so it will last.

Just a personal choice about the flywheel, yer choice. I personaly like ALL brand new parts'n pieces. If yer guna get the parts.. just compare the Ford/IH flywheel to an upgrade one.. that'l help you make yer choice.

I upgraded to a Southbend 8FB in my truck. I had the dual-mass flywheel that they put in the early 6.0s so I had to replace it. Except for the size of the transmission, it was actually easier to install than the one I put in my ranger. Also way easier than a mustang. I had it done by myself in about 4 hours. I just strapped it to the transmission jack super well so it wouldn't shift and it came right out and went right back in place. I got the entire package from Dan at Midwest Transmission.
