My 1997 F350 PSD 4X4 4 door 147,000 miles has run well since I got it (for 10,000 miles.) This weekend all of a sudden I hear a clunking in the area of the left front tire when the truck under no load. Sounds like you hit a heavy piece of steel with a large rubber mallet, 2-3 times per second. I replaced the mid-Shaft dirve shaft bearing because it had too much play but that didn't get rid of the noise.
I put the truck on four blocks so the wheels could spin. I could only make it make one clunk sound if I popped the clutch when it was idling. Any ways to diagnose what the problem is? Could it be the Dual Mass flywheel going bad? How can I diagnose that?
Advice would be appreciated.
