took a 600 mile trip this weekend to upstate ny. it was snowing in conn when i left, snowing hard. about 200 miles in,my dash says "chk air filter" when i finally did chk it was packed with snow. i cleaned her out and put it back and away i went. dash still says chk air filter. when i got to where i was going i put it in front of a heater so it would dry. i know i have to "reset " the light and i did. still the light comes on and i just hit the reset. normal for snow? i wouldnt think so.

If snow obstructs the air induction/air filter on the 2008 F-SuperDuty, there is a winter grill cover available to correct this problem. The cover is a customer purchase item, and must be installed as per the included instructions. The cover should be removed in temperatures above 50 degrees for normal driving, or 32 degrees when towing. Symptoms include a lack of power under acceleration and restricted air filter lamp illumination. Part number 8C34-19A413-AA. Broadcast Message 0284, 7323.

I didnt see the reset on the air cleaner assembly. after the sensor tells you the air filter is clogged you have to manually reset it.

I saw on another site that the 6.4 was having frozen filter issues, as are the new D'max's. If snow can find its way in, how about rain? Is the design that bad?

you would have if you drove it the other day....right!? school ground road and rt 139 had about 4' of water when i went through! route 80 was about a foot under for 1/4 mile stretch!

Just for future reference, like next winter, if your vehicle was built prior to 09-18-07 and you have experienced snow ingestion and you live in a "cold weather state" visit your Ford dealer and refer to updated TSB 08-04-08 and he will provide the repair under the terms of the new vehicle warranty.

Montyb is the update TSB 08-04-08 something they do to the air intake or is it the grille cover others talk about. Just called my Ford dealer and he checked my vin number and said to bring it in , the update under warranty wasn't done yet.

Yes, the dealer will provide a winter grill cover, new part number filter minder and new element if necessary. I thought they would modify pre 09-18-07 build vehicles to the later version, this is only my opinion but I think there is a deflector in the intake vent on the latter trucks. I have looked inside with a light and without going into it I can not tell whats different between early and late production. It's probably to costly to modify, take out inner fender well and such so they elected to pass out bandaids to early production. The same thing happened in the spring of 1999 with the first production superdutys when the intake was under the rt. headlight assembly.
