If you ever wanted to put bigger tires on your 6.4 Super Duty without adding a lift, here is the ticket. How about a $1 mod to give you clearance for 325/60R20's?
The consensus of the forums and tire shops said that you could not put 325/60's tires on stock 20" rims on a 2008, 2009, 2010 Super Duty without a lift. Here is a very simple and cheap way to open up an extra 2 1/2 inches of clearance in the fender well and they fit with no problems even with no lift... and they look awesome.
It should be obvious from the pics, but the issue is the fender wells only have 1/2" of clearance on the stock 275/65R20 tires. This is because of the shape of the plastic. You can easily pull it back and make it the correct shape for the tire radius by just using a short piece of plumber's strap, a pop rivet and an existing running board bolt. Even though I don't show it in the pics, I painted the whole thing black so you can't even see it. The whole mod took about 20 minutes for both sides.
The pics with the tape measure show the before and after. With this mod, I have no rubbing even at full lock in both directions.
I chose BFG 325/60R20's because of they are load range E. Even if you didn't care about the load capacity, the additional sidewall rigidity is substantial. I say this because I have tried both D and E. The D's are very "mushy" and non-responsive in comparison.
I did this because I wanted bigger tires but I still wanted to fit the truck in my garage and in my parking deck. Hope this helps someone.
