..........on the side of the road today while in route to a nearby town.
First indication was my ham radio went dead.............I thought hummmm, whats up with that. 10 seconds later the gauges went dead then started swinging stop to stop.
Oh crap............told the wife to grab the multimeter and adapter out of the console and plug them into the cigerette lighter. At 60 mph I only had 10.5 volts.
Next told her to start callin around to find the nearest parts store cause I knew we only had about 5-10 minutes of juice left before the thing layed down.
Made the turn off the highway and she started stutering.........meter read 8.4 volts............a block later it died. Played !@#$% turning into a parking lot with no power steering and very little brakes!!!
Called the store and learned we were only 1-1/2 miles away but they wouldn't give me a lift. Was able to get hold of an old college buddy who lived in the area and he gave me and the old alternator a lift. Sure enough when they tested it it was dead as a door knob.
Bought the new one and got it put on and got back on the road.
Only up side is at least these things are easy to replace and............I got 186K out of the OEM unit.
