I kind of got worried when I was going through a road block one day. As I was pulling away, after they checked my I.D. and insurance, I heard a cop yell "hey, stop that truck". Would like to run it through the exhaust so it wouldn't look so suspicious.

Probably seems it has increased because of the cooler weather keeping the fumes dense.

LOL, on fire. yeah mine is deff "on fire". the smell dosent bother me when I am using moble oil, but when I am using motorcraft oil it smells horrid!

Its pretty bad in the summer, but its just more noticable in the winter. I dont mind. When I worked with the "big rigs" they all smoked and I thought that was just the way diesels worked and thought nothing more of it. And here I am smoking away.

My CCV plume out the back was always more than I thought it "should" be -- but it's a lot of water vapor so it looks awful in cold weather. Regardless, I pulled the bypass line and put a Raycor filter on it. No more drips or stink.

X2

But I did the Racor, from the Git Go. (Mod'd it with replaceable/cleanable filter disks)

Somehow water vapor is a large enough constituent of crankcase aerosol to be of some concern in cold weather, or so the engineer at Racor explained today. Much of what he said went over my head... but here is what I understand so far:

If operating in very cold conditions, the water vapor in the oil mist can, layer by layer, condense into an icy sludge that can eventually constrict the ventilation tube. An ice dam, if you will.

Racor sells wrap around heater kits for their CCV4500 in part due to the engine fan sucking in and blowing frigid air into the engine compartment.

So many things to think about when making modifications. What works for a vendor based in Florida or Texas may not work so well for a customer in North Dakota or Saskatchwan.

Never mind me, I'm just resurrecting old threads from the dead in my scorched earth search for CCV filtration solutions!
