Tried it this oil change around. Seems like a decent oil, can't really say one way or the other w/out facts. but is anyone else using this oil? Any long term users? I chose my oil by looking at oil product data specs. VI, TBN, pour points, Visc @ X temp, etc. Castrol has a nice TBN, High VI, and a pretty low Visc, real low pour point, and fairly high flash point. I narrowed my oil search down to Castrol, Rotella, or Delvac. (all 15w-40 Dino CJ-4/SM oils.) Wondering what you guys think.

Check the API rating, it should be CH4+ for the 6.0 engines. That is what the oil is about.

I was at the Ford Nationals at Carlisle Pa last year. Castrol had a booth there. They were displaying their Castrol Tection 15w40. I was talking to the rep there about diesel oils. He told me Castrol did a lot of research delveloping this oil and it would work great in my 7.3

I didn't doubt him one bit, but told him I was using Rotella T 15w40 with out any problems. He said Castrol was talking with Ford and trying to make thier oil a factory fill for the Powerstrokes. (Who knows)

Tampa I'm no expert, but I think your choice is fine. Castrol has been in the oil business a long time and I'm sure they have done thier homework.

what the rep said about ford was probly correct. Ford and BP, who owns castrol, are in cahoots. Ford already factory fills it's Taurus from the Atlanta plant with BP Amaco fuel. and I've heard the new 6.4 Diesel filler caps say to use BP diesel. so no wonder they'd be factory filling Castrol Oil. The main difference I noticed between rotella and castrol was the thickness (visc). Rotella is pretty thick. Delvac is also thinner than rotella. Thinner oil usually yields better fuel econo, quicker turbo spool etc. I know in the turbo (car) world a lot of people stay within the recomended oil range... say 5-30, but try and find an oil that is on the thinner side. so for us... that's Castrol. After 10K miles I'd like to try a 5w-40 Synthetic that is CJ-4/SM rated like the new mobil 1, but it's SO expensive.

5W40 oil works like a charm. I have 65,000 miles on that oil and it works great. It is syn of course.
