I for one thought he did good for us during the Reagan years, we got much needed pay raises and better equipment

In all seriousness, Secretary Weinberger was one of the the greater statesmen of this age. I remember the class he showed when he was made to be the butt of a prank. A letter supposedly written by a young boy named Caspar asked him how he dealt with the name, as the boy was taunted with being called "ghost boy" etc. Weinberger replied with a gracious letter, only to find that it was indeed a college prank. And as Robert said, he took care of those in uniform during his tenure.
