Howdy All,
I looked on Wiki but didn't find anything on this. I would like opinions / suggestions for installing carpet. I found a nice gray marine grade carpet at Lowe's for $4.41 a cubic yard. I know there are places to order molded carpets, but I am under the impression the marine grade will hold up a little better with kids, dirt, stains, and so on. I have seen where some of y'all have put down noise barrier, will thick carpet padding work, or are there issues with it that will cause headaches?
Also I am finally fixing my headliner, have any of y'all used a radiant barrier on the inside of the roof? Unless y'all say differently I was planning on putting the radiant barrier on the inside and the painting the roof white. I am measuring about 6 inches from the edge of the roof inside this is what I am going to paint white. All you will see is the stock color from the ground.
And finally, just to make sure I am using WIKI right, just like other search engines, type in your topic in the search box right? I have had success with other items.
Thanks for your time and suggestions,
Craig

I think you'll have a tough time getting that carpet to look right without it being molded. I would just bite the bullet and get the carpet through JC Whitney or maybe powerstrokeshop if they carry it. I may even change to a rubber mat in mine when it wears out.

I think you'll have a helluva time getting that carpet to lay nicely over the hump without it wanting to bunch up or slide. I had never even pondered any kind of radiant barrier for the inside of the roof. My truck is black and I guess I never considered it a problem before. Do you get that much heat through the roof?

Stroker,
It gets pretty hot down here, especially if the truck has been sitting out in the sun. I got the idea about the white roof from the new school buses, and the radiant barrier from when I was doing electrical work and a homeowner had it put in his attic. It dropped the temp in there by a good 30 degrees if not more. I couldn't help wonder how it would work in my truck, I know it is big time apples to oranges but the curiosity is killing me.
I agree with you and Whatabudro that getting it to lay flat over that hump is an exercise in frustration. Just a thought becuase I like the way the gray carpet I was looking at looks in the cab (had a sample). As always, thanks for the input.

Beautiful Tennessee Hills!
I used to install automotive carpet and you will need to cut and sew to get roll goods to lay in there neatly. Pretty good job if it is something new to you; otherwise, I would order the molded carpet as suggested.

In a van down by the river...
I've got an '02 so the seat bolt patterns probably aren't the same as your truck, but I removed the carpet a couple months ago and it's been sitting in the shed ever since. If you're interested in it (vs. buying a roll of flat carpet), PM me and maybe we can work something out...
