I came across an OBS 250 this weekend and remembered the brake pad discussion from last week. It made me wonder if the front brake disk setup from the 250 could be used to change the back from drum to disk.

Would that be a simple change or completely unworkable?

This truck looked to be in very good shape. If they would let me scavenge it, are there parts I would want to have around and should pull, just in case?

Thanks.

That's a good link but Im not so interested in buying someone else's conversion kit as I might be simply stripping the front brakes off the 250 I found and using them on the rear of my 350. My question, though, is whether that will work? If not, I probably wont ever convert.

(hheynow, what happened to your first reply? It was here a minute ago?)

Your still going to have to come up with a backing plate and bracket to hold the calipers.

Youre also aware that with rear discs you will lose your parking brake right? Unless you do the full expensive conversion.

well, no, I had not considered that but can see it now. I saw a previous discussion on making the conversion and the person doing it made his own bracket to work with the E-brake. I think this is another conversion I wont be doing. Too bad, I dont like drum brakes. Oh, well, thanks for showing me the fantasy involved.

Rear discs are the way to go, but to do it cheaply and halfassed will only frustrate you.

Cobbling brakes together is a bad idea. Another name for the "Parking Brake" is "Emergency Brake". The reason it is also called a emergency brake is so when you lose your brakes for any reason you still have a manual back-up. On a old rig I had a master cylinder fall off the firewall(no comment)and I must say that it would have been a bad situation if the parking/emergency brake did not work. If a guy is going to do the disk brake conversion then be sure you do it right, brakes are your friend.
