So my break lights went out and the first thing i did was check the fuse but wasnt paying much attention and over looked the one that was for the brakes so i went out and spent $6 on the switch that is on the brake pedal. But my question is do the plastic rings that fell off the break pedal switch keep it from grounding out on the brake pedal because now everytime i put a new fuse in it blows and i think it may be from the plastic rings i didnt put back on with the new switch. Thanks for the help Lance

those plastic rings & bushings are there to reduce wear and noise, they
dont provide for any electrical connections

Sounds like your fuse was blown before you changed the switch so I would guess that the same problem that blew the first fuse is blowing all the new ones. Check the trailer wiring under the rear bumper. many other places the short could be but the trailer plug wiring is a common one.
