I have two 6V deep cell batteries (for a golf cart) that are bulging on the sides. They are 7 years old but still hold a charge and have been in full summer sun for the past few years. So what's the deal with the bulge? Is there a risk of them bursting?

Sidewalls that buldge can be a sign that the batteries froze at some point in time. If that ain't likely, maybe the vent caps are plugged?

I would say this is what caused your problem Richard. If they hold a charge and are only occassionally used in the golf cart, run'em till they die. I wouldnt make a habit out of camping on top of them when the charger is hooked up.

However, if they are being charged frequently and in an area where there is other "stuffs" you dont want messed up, get new ones.
