has anyone ever heard of such a thing?
anyone using this product/does it work?

'blueheat is a compact device that installs under the hood, heats the vehicles engine and interior and defrosts the windshield w/o running the engine. because blueheat eliminates the need to idle for heat, you benefit from fuel savings less engine wear and reduced harmful exhaust emissions.'

for more info: call auto truck group at 630-860-5600

comes with a standard timer and an optional remote.
:dunno

found this in a book i stole from the dealer's desk the other day. the book was 'super trucker' in & about ford trucks - detailing the '08. interesting reading..

wouldnt this just kill your batterys? I mean I know what it does but EXACTLY how would you use this. sounds cool but, I leave my truck pluged in at night and I run out side 5 min early and start her up and leave the defrost running and by the time I get to geting the window is defrosted since the block was warm. And if I slept in my truck overnight I could only think I would have that thing going all night. cool but, I think by then my batterys would be dead. In that case you would have to start the truck and recarge the batterys every couple hours or so. and that in it self would keep the block warm sooooo... help me here.

that is exactly what it is. don;t laugh, they work! they are optional equipt in northern europe. now, $1500 sounds about right.

Standheizung translates to park-heater. the unit uses fuel from the fuel system and burn it, heating either the coolant or air and circulating it. the system has many failsafes too.

its a cordless coolant heater. MB, Audi, VW have them set up with remotes like remote starts. Audi has a system that you can call with your cell phone and start it.

i know of a couple of folks who have installed the german units on Mk4 and Mk5 vw's. they love them

the us military has also used them- typically Webasto units. I think its a NATO standard thing.

Diesel heater

I live in northern Canada, and I have a Webasto on my 06 6.0 KR. Best thing since sliced bread. If its -40 or so I'll have it start 50 minutes or so prior to start (not plugged in), the glow plugs go out instantly, and the truck starts right now blowing heat. I have a 30 minute or so drive to work, and never have any battery issues. If there is no place to plug in -mall, hockey rink, etc, no problem. Alot of times when it is really cold, I'll run it while driving for extra heat - fantastic. If you experience 0 F or colder, it really makes a difference. For most of you in the States (not Alaska or the northern plains), it is probably overkill.

i love them, i install them on trucks at work often. we dont sell them so i dont know how much they are new ($1500 sounds about right...). i have been watching ebay for a cheap unit to pop up. THEY WORK AWESOME! the coolant heaters will heat up the mercedes 2.7liter to 180* in about 10 minutes. the air units are great for OTR truckers that need to run the 15 liter cat to keep the cab warm....set the t-stat and sleep warm, they barely burn any fuel at all. they do use some juice, but when the units running it only takes about 5 amps. it will draw around 10 while its igniting.

I had one of these in a Euro spec Saab 9000 turbo I bought while stationed in Germany back in 93-96. I believe the Saab was a 86 or 87. I didn't even know I had it until a German girl I was dating showed it to me and how to use it. (the computer in the dash was all German) The unit worked great, I loved it on those cold mornings.
I was racking my brain to remember the spelling until I saw DP's post. I was just going to spell it phonetically
