now that we have a basic diagram of the system..
starting at #2 in the picture...
the compressor..
most of us understand what a compressor does.. takes a low pressure / low temperature gas and makes it a high pressure / high temperature gas (Boyle's Law)...
from there, it goes to #3, the condenser (in front of the radiator)... here it gives up heat to the atmosphere, and condenses to liquid form (still under 200+ lbs of pressure)
leaving the condenser, it flows through the expansion valve (on our trucks, an orifice tube) where like fuel from an injector, it's sprayed into the inlet of the #1, the evaporator, where, now as a low pressure, low temperature mist, picks up heat from the passenger compartment and "evaporates" back into a vapor...
and the cycle starts all over again.
