Just got back from a 550 mile trip from Redding Ca. via hwy 299 to Eureka, 101 south to Ukiah then I took (dirt trail) 175 to Clearlake.. Take out your maps the put a tripple red X on road 175. It is barely passable for a motorcycle, or go-cart. Many multipule 15 mph 180 degree turns on a very narrow road.
Never again...
If you are pulling a trailer or 5th wheel, there is no place to turn around and you would need both lanes to go one way. Chances on getting hit head on are very good.

Good thing is went 486 miles on 26.182 gallons= 18.562 mpg. which has been average since I purchased the truck. I was in 2nd and 3rd gear allot, and thought for sure the mileage would be very low.

Mileage

I believe that the mileage I get is because I keep 70 psi in the tires, have a manual trans that has the larger down pipe, and maybe the manual trans has less power loss than an automatic. I read somewhere that a guy was getting over 20 mpg. Since we all have the same engines, and trucks are very much alike, if we all give each other tips on what we find helps make good mpg, then we all will be getting 18 to 20 mpg or more. My truck was built in April 2006, so maybe the tune on it is better for mileage. That is just a guess. This last trip I floored the truck numerious times getting around slow traffic on two lane roads, and spent a lot of time in 2nd and 3rd gear around tight corners, and I am amazed that I got good mileage. On hwy 101 I had to run 60-65 mph for about 40 miles, so that might have helped the mileage. All the way up Interstate 5 I kept it at my usual 70 mph and 2000 rpm. on cruise control. Most of the traffic is going 80 to 85 mph, I just ride in the slow lane.
