Well, I'm back to being full-time unemployed. To help fill in the slack time over the winter lay-off from my regular spring thru fall job, I got hired by Target back in November as a seasonal employee. The job was supposed to last through about mid-Feb. But this week they were letting all the seasonal hires go.
Today was my last day at Target. So I guess all I have to do until I get called back to my regular job is cause trouble around here and let the dog out from time to time.
In hind sight, I have to say I don't think trying to supplement the unemployment income with a part time job was worth the trouble.
Basically it all works like this:
If you get layed off from a full time job, you are entitled to an unemployment insurance benefit until you resume full time work (or until your weeks of unemployment run out whichever comes first).
You are allowed to get a part time job to supplement your unemployment income.
The catch is, for every $1 of wages earned with your part time job, your unemployment check gets reduced by $0.50.
So keeping in mind that most part time work is rather low paying to begin with, what ever it is, you can cut that wage in half because your gross unemployment check gets cut based on your part time paycheck.
So is getting up at 3:15 in the a.m. and working for 6 hours for a net income of about $20 worth the bother? I'm not too sure.
